Armstrong Apartments were originally constructed as teacher housing in 1920 by Colonel Armstrong a prominent figure in the community who also served as Mayor. The property was purchased in 2012 after years of vacancy. A full gut rehab was completed in 2013 by Rehab Builders of Winston Salem who specialize in historical adaptive reuse projects. Architectural work was completed by Eddie Belk of Belk Architecture of Durham who worked on Brightleaf Square and the American Tobacco Co. mill projects in Durham among other historical adaptive reuse work.
