Consett is a former mining and steel works town in the north west of County Durham with a resident population of circa 30,000 people. The settlement is approximately 16 miles south west of Newcastle upon Tyne, 13 miles north west of Durham City and approximately 16 miles from Chester le Street. The town lies close to the junction of the A691, A692, A693 and close to the A68. The A1 (M) is approximately 15 miles away.
