It is now a popular tourist attraction in the High Peak district attracting over 2 million visitors a year. It is associated with the training of the Dambusters of World War Two. The area is popular with walkers, with several well-known walks available around the reservoir. Cyclists also frequent the area, with fishing and sailing also taking place on the water.
